Gerald served in the United States Army from March 13, 1953 until his honorable discharge on March 14, 1955. While in the Army, he served in the 499th Engineer Battalion building roads while stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. Gerald was united in marriage to Elna Larsen on October 11, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted, IA. The couple lived two miles West of Little Falls until their retirement in 1995 when they moved to Jerry’s parents homestead on Bass Lake near Grey Eagle. Jerry was employed as a mover at Cliff Buck Furniture Store from 1958-1963. Since the L.P. Gas Service Company was in the same building, he began working for them repairing furnaces and servicing L.P. tanks from 1963-1995. Gerald enjoyed crappie fishing, knowing all the local lakes by heart. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending the stock car races in Sauk Centre. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls and the Little Falls American Legion Post #46.
