Richard “Stuffy” Stauffeneker, age 74, of Hillman, MN, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle against lung cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Hillman, MN, with Rev. Jean Megorden officiating. Burial will be in Pine Tree Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19th at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN. Burial will be in Pine Tree Cemetery in Granite Township with Military Honors by the Hillman American Legion.
Visitation will continue on Friday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Richard “Stuffy” was born on April 20, 1939 in Leigh Township, Morrison County, Minnesota the son of Theodore & Martha (Otto) Stauffenecker. He attended grade school in Hillman and then went to school in Onamia. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United State Marines. After the military, he returned to Minnesota and eventually settled in the Hillman area. He was united in marriage to Alice Wacker on January 21, 1961. The couple owned and operated Stuffy’s Meats for 30 years. He retired on April 21, 2007. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, skeet shooting, playing horseshoes and having a beer with friends. He was a member of the Hillman American Legion, the Hillman Lions Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his significant other, Bonnie Eastman of Hillman, MN; children, Pamela Barker of Alice, TX, and Vickey (Donald) Marx of Williston, ND; siblings, Howard (Barb) Stauffenecker of Punta Gorda, FL, Marie Cronquist of Hillman, MN; grandchildren, Sadie (Adam) Kurowski of Pierz, MN, Travis Barker of Orange Grove, TX, Tia Stauffeneker of Buckman, MN, and Shayne Marx of Williston, ND; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Stauffenecker of Duluth, MN and brother-in-law, Gene Medlin of California.
Stuffy was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore & Martha Stauffenecker; wife, Alice Stauffeneker; brother, Theodore Stauffenecker, Jr.; sister, Anna Medlin; and brother-in-law, Vernon Cronquist.
