David Thommes, 80 year resident of Pierz died Monday, March 11 at Good Shepherd Home in Sauk Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 18 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman. A visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of the service at the church in Buckman. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. The military rites will be conducted by the Pierz American Legion.
David John Thommes was born July 4, 1938 in Buckman, MN to the late John “Huns” and Delores (Hesch) Thommes. David attended rural country school and graduated from St. Josephs School in Pierz, MN. He joined the United States Army and served his Country honorably. After his discharge from the military, David returned to the Buckman area. He worked at Electrolux/Frigidaire in St. Cloud for 47 years. He also farmed in Buckman Township all his adult life. David enjoyed farming, bowling, hunting, fishing, tending to his lawn, gardening especially sweet corn and strawberries. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Roger (Diane) Thommes; sister-in-law, Mary Ella Thommes; nephews, Jeff (Ivy), Brian (Lois), Kevin, Douglas (Eve) and Steve; nieces, Kellie and Wendy (Brad).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Huns and Delores; siblings, Delroy, Ronald (Jeannie) and Jeanette.
