Leon S Weiss

December 2, 1939 ~ August 11, 2018 (age 78)

Leon S. Weiss, 78 year old resident of Lastrup died Saturday, August 11 at his home in Lastrup with his loving family by his side.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 16 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup.  A visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 15 and from 9:00-10:15 A.M. on Thursday, August 16 at the Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery.

Leon Sylvester Weiss was born on December 2, 1939 in Buh Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late Peter and Magdalena (Millner) Weiss.  He attended school through the ninth grade.  In 2011, Leon completed his GED.  Leon was united in marriage to Joyce Gangl on October 31, 1966 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman.  The couple made their home in Buh Township, Morrison County, Minnesota. He farmed for a good part of his adult life.  He also, worked as a custodian for Mary of Lourdes and Holy Trinity Catholic Schools. Leon enjoyed everything outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He received the Morrison County Conservation Farmer of the Year Award. Leon was a member of Richardson Area Lions, former first responder and fire arms instructor.  Leon was a faithful member of St. John’s Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup where he sang in the choir and community choir for many years. His greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family.

Leon is survived by his wife, Joyce of Lastrup; children, Allen (Jane) of Little Falls, Michael (Katie) of St. Cloud, Kevin of New Hope, LeAnn (Chris) Latvaaho of Phoenix, AZ and Amy Mattison (James Paschelke) of Pierz; sisters, Juliette Henley of Port Aransas, TX, Corrine Murray of Brainerd and Joann (Pat) Faust of Milaca; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Magdalena Weiss; brothers, Wilfred Weiss, Clarence Weiss; sister, Alvina Welle.
