Alys Hanowski

September 18, 1939 — October 14, 2006

Alys Diann Hanowski, age 67, of Rice, MN passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN with Fr. Kenneth Brenny officiating. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Alys was born on September 18, 1939 to Glen and Nina Larsen in Highmore, South Dakota. She succumbed to a heart attack on October 14, 2006. Alys attended Highmore Schools for 12 years, graduating from high school in 1957. While at HHS, she will be remembered as a cheerleader for the Highmore athletic teams. She attended air-line school in Omaha, NE and then went to Washington, DC to work for a year before returning to Little Falls to rejoin her parents. After moving to Little Falls, she was employed by Crestliner Boats. Alys married Kenneth Hanowski in the fall of 1960 at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. To this union, five children were born and she spent the next 22 years focused on raising her family in a warm, loving and nurturing home. She rejoined the work force as owner-operator of the Personal Touch Wedding Boutique in Little Falls for the next 20 years. Her work ethic and dedication continued at the JcPenny in St. Cloud for the past five years. Children and grandchildren provided her most valued enjoyment in life. Alys is survived by her five children: Daniel (Lori) of Clear Lake, MN; Deborah (David) Plagens of Apple Valley, MN; Karen (Dean) Witt of Little Falls, MN; Michael (Cheryl) Hanowski of Elk River, MN; Brenda Hanowski of Eagan, MN; twelve grandchildren: Samantha, Collin, Alexa & Christian Hanowski; Erin & Jena Plagens; Tiffany Hanowski, Devin, Zachary & Stephanie Hanowski, Chantel & Justin McDougall and brother Irl (Carol) Larsen of Ramsey, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, her parents, Glen and Nina Larsen, sister Dianna Mae and an infant brother. Casket Bearers will be Alys' Grandchildren.
