Arthur "Art" Zapzalka

Arthur Zapzalka, a beloved dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend to many passed away Thursday, November 14 at St. Ottos in Little Falls at the age of 90. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 22 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls and from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of the service on Friday at the church. The burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.

Arthur was born on May 27, 1929 to Albin and Florence (Waletski) Zapzalka in Swan River Township, MN. He served in the US Army for 2 years. Arthur was married to Genevieve Piekarski on April 27, 1959 in Flensburg, MN. Together they had 10 children. Arthur worked at the West Side Creamery from 1956-1972. He was a custodian at the Little Falls Middle School from 1972 until his retirement in 1991. He continued to work part time at the school until 2009. Arthur loved woodworking, card playing, reading the newspaper, going out for breakfast at the West Side Cafe, playing Bingo and shaking dice. He especially enjoyed decorating and celebrating the holidays with family. He was a member of the Sobieski Lions, Little Falls American Legion Post #46, Knights of Columbus #1804 and St Stanislaus Church in Sobieski. Arthur was a genuine servant to the Lord. He loved being with people, had an infectious smile and had wonderful long conversations with many. Arthur was devoted to his family and loved to share how proud he was of each of them.

Arthur is survived by his children; Gary (Linda) Zapzalka of Holdingford, Michael Zapzalka of St Stephen, Brian (Cindy Hedin) Zapzalka of Swanville, Karen (Lance) Michalski of Duluth, Barb Zapzalka of Minneapolis, Wayne Zapzalka of Blaine, Carmen (Mike) Yasgar of Bowlus, John (Sarah) Zapzalka of Sobieski, Michelle (Frank) Kurowski of Swanville, Ann Marie (Andy) Zimmermann of Sobieski; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Brothers; Duane (Carole) Zapzalka of Bowlus, Donny (Nila) Zapzalka of Little Falls, Ben (Judy) Zapzalka of Bowlus; sisters; Rita (Lawrence) Trettel of Bowlus, Darlene (Gary) Wilczek of Little Falls and Carol (Ray) Wilczek of North Prairie.

Arthur is preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; parents; granddaughter, Amber Zapzalka, brother, Ambrose Zapzalka and sister, Evelyn Witt.
