Catherine M. Meyer

Catherine M. Meyer, age 90, passed away on Oct. 29, 2018 at the Pierz Villa Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 2 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. The burial will be held in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 A. M. on Friday at the church.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be the Pierz American Legion Auxiliary.

Catherine was born July 25, 1928, on her parents farm in Hillman Township (Morrison County), about 7 miles east of Pierz, Minnesota. Her parents were Peter Joseph Banach and Catherine (Otremba) Banach. She attended school with her three sisters at Rural School District #143 about a mile east of their farm. A few years after graduating, she obtained a job in Minneapolis as a housekeeper and nanny.

On May 11, 1948, Catherine married Leander Michael Meyer at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Pierz. They lived and worked in Minneapolis for a short time and then purchased a farm in Hillman Township (adjacent to her parents farm). They farmed their 360 acre property for 36 years. On their farm: they gave life to 8 children, harvested crops, milked holstein cows, raised beef cattle, pigs and chickens. They also sold wood from the forest during the winter months. While farming, Catherine was a member of St. Ritas Catholic Parish and the Christian Mothers in Hillman, MN. She also worked at Crestliner Boats in Little Falls, MN for several years and enjoyed being an adult leader for the Center Valley Dairylanders 4-H Club.

In May 1986, Catherine and Leander sold their farm and retired to live in Pierz, MN. Catherine then worked at Redwood Industries in Pierz for a short time and was a substitute cook at Pierz High School. She also was a member of The Pierz American Legion Auxiliary, St. Josephs Catholic Parish, and St. Josephs Christian Women. She especially enjoyed doing volunteer work, catering for weddings and funerals, gardening, playing cards with friends, bowling with a team, and going fishing with her family.

Catherine Meyer was preceded in death by her parents: Peter Banach (09/11/89) Catherine Banach (10/22/89), by her husband: Leander (01/18/12), and by two sons and two daughters: LeRoy P. Meyer (10/12/51), Leon S. Meyer (03/13/91), Mary C. Schraut (11/03/08), and Kathryn F. Meyer (03/20/10).

Catherine is survived by three sons, one daughter, eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. This includes: (1) Clyde Meyer of Brainerd, MN and his son Scott daughter Caitlyn. (2) Jerome Jerry (Lydia) Meyer of Eagan, MN, their daughter Jennifer (Brandon) Pearson and son Jonathan Meyer, their grandchildren: Benjamin, Alexander, Cadence Pearson. (3) Cheryl (Bruce) Silva of Wolcott, Connecticut. (4) David (Jennifer) Meyer of Somerset, New Jersey and their daughters Grace Madelynn. Other survivors include Marys children and grandchildren. This includes: (1) Brian Schraut and his sons Ethan, Brody Cody, (2) Steve (Sheila) Schraut and their children Skylar Seth, (3) Christy Hormann and her daughters Sage Reyna, (4) Jeff Schraut and (5) Dan Schraut. Catherine is also survived by three sisters: Alice Matlock of Pierz, Lucille Stangl of Pierz, and Ardelle (Steven) Wentworth of Brainerd, MN.
