Daniel P. "Danny" Langer, age 82, of Pierz, MN, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007, at the Pierz Villa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 22, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN, with Fr. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Interment with military rites conducted by the Pierz American Legion will be in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery in Pierz. Visitation will be held from 4:00 a" 8:00 P.M. Friday, Dec. 21st and 9:00 a" 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Dec. 22nd at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz. There will be a rosary at 4:30 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral chapel followed by Pierz American Legion service at 6:00 P.M. and parish prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Daniel was born June 20, 1925 in Pierz, MN to the late Henry and Anna 'Meyer' Langer. He grew up in Pierz and graduated in 1944. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Alice C. Niesen on September 16, 1948. The couple moved to Sauk Centre and in 1949 they moved to Pierz where they operated the Pierz Dry Cleaners. In 1957, the couple moved to Minneapolis, later moving to St. Paul where Dan ran the dry cleaning business for Skeffington's Tux Rental until he retired. In 1988, they moved back to Pierz. Alice died in June of 1989. Dan was united in marriage to Mary L. Gritzmacher on September 20, 1991 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. Mary and Dan made their home in Pierz. In February of 2002 Dan suffered a stroke and on September 10, 2007 Mary died. Dan continued to live in the Pierz Villa residing there until his death. Dan was an avid golfer getting a hole in one in 2000 on the 7th hole of the Pierz Golf Course. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and for over 50 years a member of the American Legion. Dan is survived by one daughter, Diane Markwardt of Sheffield, IA and two sons, Gregg and wife, Valerie of Las Vegas, NV, and David and wife, Nancy of Lino Lakes, MN; step-daughter, Janet Brausen and husband, Gary; step-sons, Jim Gritzmacher and wife, Natalie and Joel Gritzmacher and wife, Mary all of Pierz; brother, Elmer and wife, Julie of Pierz and sister, Rita Kiefer of Little Falls; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Peter, Shannon, Ashley, April, Matthew and Samantha; nine step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Langer and second wife, Mary Gritzmacher-Langer; parents and brothers, Jack, Reinhart, Michael & Peter Langer.
