David Allen Nelson

David Nelson, 75 year old resident of Royalton, passed away on Tuesday, September 10 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls. A grave side service will be held on Friday, September 20 at 3:00 P.M. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN.

David Allen Nelson was born on November 26, 1948 in Little Falls, MN to the late Ole and Mary (Bushey) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Little Falls. David served his Country in the United States Navy from November 28, 1966 until his honorable discharge on November 27, 1972. David received the following awards while he was in the Navy: The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. After his honorable discharge David returned to Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Gloria (Heinz) Spalding on June 20, 1974 and the couple later divorced in 1983. David was then married to Rose Mary Mettenberg Nelson from 1998 until they divorced in 2012. David worked as a diesel mechanic for Twin City Fan in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He retired in 2008 due to declining health. David enjoyed attending car shows, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing with his daughters Tricia and Missy.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Patricia Nelson, Melissa (Patrick) Gunnink; son, Michael Mettenberg; siblings, Richard (Martha) Nelson, Steven (Shirley) Nelson, Barb (Bill) Jacquemark, Evylin Loidolt-Marble; grandchildren, Tylor Hartman, Andrew Chisholm and Kai Belanger and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Stiller, Gloria Stumpf and Margaret Nelson and grandchildren, Taylor Allen Nelson and Kamilla McKnight and two infant babies.
