Elsie S. Monson Elsie S. Monson 92 year old resident of Pierz, MN died Sunday at the Pierz Villa Nursing Home in Pierz, MN. Funeral Service for Elsie will be held Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church at 11 AM in Ramey with Rev. Dale Boening officiating. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery in Morrill, MN. Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Tuesday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN and from 10-11 AM on Wednesday at the church. Prayer service will be said at 7 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Elsie was born September 3, 1915 in Lakin Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late Edward and Mable (Nelson) Sterr. She grew up in Lakin Township and attended school there. She moved to the Minneapolis area as a young woman and attended beauty school. While attending beauty school, she worked for the Dayton family, owners of the Dayton's Department Store. She was united in marriage to Harold Monson on July 22, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman, MN. The couple purchased a farm in Eastern Morrison County in 1945. Harold died on January 6, 1993. Elsie continued living on the family farm until moving into Pierz in 1994. Elsie enjoyed reading, especially the Bible and babysitting her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and baker. Whenever you went to Elsie's you never went home hungry. Elsie enjoyed visiting with friends and family but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were extra special to her. She had many several prayer partners throughout her life. Her relationship with God and her Bible were a very important part of her life. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ramey, MN. She taught Sunday School for many years and was very active in her church. Elsie was a member of the Hillman Legion Auxiliary. Elsie is survived by her children, Ronald Monson and wife, Ruth, of Lastrup, MN, Donald Monson and wife, Rose Mary, of Hillman, MN, Carol Vogtlin and husband, James, of Isanti, MN and Donna Herold and husband, John, of Pierz, MN; sisters, Bertha Funt of Pierz, MN, Inez Slomkowski of Blaine, MN, Ruth Connors of Hillman, MN, Marion Miller of Foley, MN, Coral Miller of Anoka, MN and Audrey Sterr of Aitkin, MN; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mable (Nelson) Sterr; husband, Harold Monson; brothers, Clyde Sterr, Frank Sterr, David Simmons; sister, Helen Aufderheide. Casket Bearers will be: Scott Monson, Todd Monson, Chad Monson, Clint Monson, Ronnie Monson, Jr., Rick Monson, Robbie Monson, Dan Rocheleau and Tony Herold.
