Genevieve M. Kastanek

Genevieve Kastanek, age 92, of Pierz, MN passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 23, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pierz, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday, July 22, 2007 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz with Christian Mother's rosary at 4:30 P.M. followed by Parish Prayers at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Monday from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. Genevieve M. Kastanek was born on January 2, 1915 in Little Falls, Minnesota to the late Vincent and Martha (Smuda) Richter. She attended rural schools in Pike Creek and Swan townships. Genevieve worked in Little Falls at the Buckman Hotel for three years and at the Sands CafAC. in Little Falls for over one year before her marriage to Anthony "Tony" Kastanek on June 1, 1937 at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls. They resided at the family farm 1 1/4 miles East of Genola until 1991 when they moved to Pierz. She loved gardening and enjoyed her flower gardens. Genevieve worked at St. Mary's Villa in Pierz as a cook for ten years and later volunteered at the Villa for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the St. Joseph's Christian Mother's. Genevieve is survived by her sons, James (Sandra) Kastanek of Freeport, MN, Michael (Mary) Kastanek of Littleton, CO; daughter, Janice (James) Eide of Maple Grove, MN; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Agnes Richter of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Mary, Gertrude and Clara (Richter) O'Brien and brothers, Leo, Max and Dan Richter. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Kastanek, Jr., Jeff Kastanek, Dan Kastanek, John Eide, Jeff Nadeau and Roy Tomala.
