Henry J. Zimmermann

Henry Zimmermann, 59 year old resident of Hillman, MN, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. Monday, September 10, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Nicholas Landsberger officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment with military honors will be at 10:15 A.M. Tuesday, September 11, 2007 in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Henry John Zimmermann was born on October 1, 1947 in Little Falls, MN, the son of Leo & Florence (Kempenich) Zimmermann. He grew up in Little Falls and graduated from Little Falls High School, Class of 1965. He entered the United States Army on August 30, 1966 and served with the 101st Airborne. Decorations he received include the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Sharpshooter M-14, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Medical Badge and Bronze Star. Henry was honorably discharged from active duty on August 14, 1969 and served in the reserves until August 29, 1972. Following his military service, Henry attended St. Cloud State University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree. He continued his studies at Colorado State University where he received his Master's Degree. He was also working toward his PhD. Henry lived in Colorado from 1977 to 1998 where he worked as a private consultant until his retirement. He then moved to a farm in Richardson Township near Hillman, MN. Henry enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Henry is survived by his son, Stuart (Melissa) Zimmermann of Watertown, MN; grandchildren, Sarah & Henry Zimmermann at home in Watertown, MN; mother, Florence Zimmermann of Little Falls, MN; siblings, Daniel Zimmermann of St. Clair, MO, David (Laure) Zimmermann of Little Falls, MN, Joan (Joe) Conway of Atwater, MN, Dean (Pam) Zimmermann of Alexandria, MN, Steven Zimmermann of Little Falls, MN, Gale Zimmermann of Little Falls, MN, Gary Zimmermann of Sartell, MN, and Leo (Cheryl) Zimmermann of Foley, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Zimmermann and brothers, Billy and Tom Zimmermann.
