Herbert P. Schneider was born on October 20, 1929 in Two Rivers Township, Morrison County, MN to the late Henry and Mary (Slinger) Schneider. The Schneider family moved to their current farm in Swan River Township in 1931. Herb attended school in District 9 through the eighth grade. He worked on a potato farm in North Dakota and at Armour packing in South St. Paul before returning to operate the farm. Herb was united in marriage to Loretta Lund on September 5, 1953 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN. They raised 14 children on the family farm. Herb served as a supervisor on the Swan River Township Board for 51 years and was a fire warden for over 35 years. He was a lifetime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed elk hunting trips to Colorado and fishing trips with friends, playing cards with the Mothers’ Club guys, watching wrestling and Westerns, mowing lawn, and some trips to Arizona and Florida with family. But most of all, he loved to farm, giving advice and directions to the very end, and enjoying one final ride in the combine this fall.

Herb is survived by his children Judy (Dan) Saewert of Burnsville, MN; Joe Schneider of Little Falls, MN; Tom (Charlotte) Schneider of Little Falls, MN; John (Renae) Schneider of Little Falls, MN; Ray Schneider of Big Lake, MN; Mary (Butch) Sobania of Aitkin, MN; Katie (Joel) Bodin of Chanhassen, MN; Peggy (Ed) Heying of Rice, MN; Bob Schneider of Little Falls, MN; Mike (Michelle LeBeau) Schneider of Roseville, MN; and Jenny (Brian) Plath of Hutchinson, MN; as well as 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, loving relatives and friends. He is also survived by his sister Marie (Mark) Zehowski and sisters-in-law Marilyn (Richard) Lund and Kathern (Leo) Schneider.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mary; his wife Loretta; brothers Andrew, Arnold, Carl, Leo, Gerald, Donald, and Jerome; sisters Rita and Irene; and children Dave Schneider, Steve Schneider, and Jan Urban.

A special thank you to Dr. Sheldon Burns, fondly known as “Burnsie,” for his friendship and care of Herb for over 30 years.
