Marie Rose Zehowski, a cherished resident of Sobieski, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on January 7, 2026, at the age of 87. She was the beloved wife of Mark Zehowski and a devoted mother to her six children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in honor of Marie Rose Zehowski on Wednesday, January 14, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, where Father Patrick Hoeft will officiate. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 13, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, and will continue on Wednesday, January 14, from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service at the church. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Following the Mass, interment will occur at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Bowlus. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to Coborn's Cancer Center in memory of Marie.
Born on October 20, 1938, in Little Falls, Marie was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Henry and Mary (Slinger) Schneider. She grew up in Swan River Township, Morrison County, and graduated from Little Falls Community High School. On September 30, 1957, Marie united in marriage with Mark Zehowski at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Elmdale. The couple eventually settled in Swan River Township, where they resided for 68 years and were blessed with six children: Gary, Ronald, Renae, Lois, Ernie, and Donald. Marie was a dedicated member of her community, having worked at St. Gabriel's Hospital as a nurse's aide, as well as at Woolworths and Raymond Insurance.
She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, where she participated in the social group. Throughout her life, Marie engaged in various hobbies including puzzles, sewing, gardening, canning, baking, landscaping, dancing, and raising purple martins. Her nurturing spirit and love for her family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Marie is survived by her husband Mark, her children Gary (Kim) Zehowski, Ronald (Amelia) Zehowski, Rena’ (Roger) Lashinski, Lois (Dan) Waytashek, Ernie (Lori) Zehowski, and Donald (Jackie) Zehowski, along with 24 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, all affectionately known as "grandma." She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Jeanette Zehowski and Katherine Schneider both of Little Falls.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Schneider, and her siblings Andrew, Arnold, Carl, Leo, Gerald, Donald, Jerome, Herb; sisters, Rita and Irene. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Coborns Cancer Center and Dr. Hani Alkhatib for the exceptional care provided to Marie over the past 15 years.
