Martha "Marge" Gruber, 93-year-old resident of Pierz, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 22 at her home with her family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 31 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Aaron Nett and Father Kenneth Popp concelebrating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 30 and from 9:30 -11:00 A.M. on October 31. All visitation times will be held at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. The burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Marge (Lesniak) Gruber was born on July 29, 1932, in Gilmanton Township to the late Louis and Verna (Hess) Lesniak. She grew up in Lakin Township, Morrison County, MN with her five siblings, Michael, Clarence, Paul, Frances and Elisabeth. She attended a country school which was two and half miles from her home, walking to and from school five days a week. She graduated from Foley High School. After graduation she moved to Hopkins, MN and was employed in the check writing office at Minneapolis Moline.
Marge was united in marriage to Fred Gruber on November 24, 1956, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Brennyville, MN. The couple was blessed with five children, Scott, Craig, Lisa, Brian and Derek. Marge was a stay-at-home mother, raising and prioritizing the couple’s children in Lake Benton, MN. She treasured her time as a wife and mother. Marge enjoyed sewing quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These quilts are a permanent reminder of her love for her family. Marge was an amazing cook and baker and her hospitality to family and friends was unrivaled. A skilled seamstress, she also tackled home improvement projects including upholstery, furniture refinishing, and painting. She delved into each project with boundless energy and perfection in mind.
The couple enjoyed traveling to Spain, Africa, England and Austria. They also traveled to Italy, Holland, and all over the West and East Coast of the United States. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Pierz American Legion Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Fred Gruber; children, Scott (Cathy) Gruber, Lisa (Rob) Tapani, Craig (Kathy) Gruber, Brian (Mary) Gruber and Derek Gruber; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Myra Lesniak and Darlene Lesniak, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, sister-in-law, Delores Lesniak and granddaughter, Jessica Gruber.
