Michael A. Walz

Michael Walz, 85 year old resident of Pierz, MN died Monday, September 10 at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 13 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with the Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Wednesday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz, MN and from 8:30 a" 10:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Rosary will be said at 4:30 PM followed by Parish Prayers at 6:30 PM and KC'S at 7:30 PM. Michael was born August 25, 1922 in Pierz Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to the late Edward and Gertrude (Schuiller) Walz. He grew up in Pierz, MN and attended country school. In his early 20's he moved to New Ulm, MN and farmed and showed cattle at the state fairs throughout the Midwest. Mike was united in marriage to Mary Maurer on June 20, 1959. In 1962 the couple moved back to Pierz, MN and farmed until his retirement in 1994. The couple later divorced. Following his retirement he moved into Pierz, MN where he enjoyed playing cards, bingo and volunteering at Green Pastures and the Harmony House. When his started declining he moved into the Harding Place and then moved to the Pierz Villa where he resided at his death. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Pierz, MN. Mike is survived by his sons, Steve, Paul and Scott Walz all of Pierz, MN; brothers, Wilfred Walz and wife, Phyllis, of Pickney, MI, Donald Walz and wife, Janet, of Renville, MN; sisters, Mildred Voelker of Little Falls, MN, Delores Weiss of Brainerd, MN and Marie Herold and husband, Herb, of St. Cloud, MN; caregiver and friend, Nora Poginy of Pierz, MN; sister-in-laws, Louene Walz and Lorraine Walz of Pierz, MN and Evelyn Walz of Osseo, MN. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edward, John, Reinhart and Ray Walz; sister, Hildegard Walz and two infant sisters. Honorary Casketbearers will be: Donny Saehr, Dave Saehr, Tom Albrecht, Paul Nieman and the residents and staff of the Pierz Villa Casketbearers will be Glenn Voelker, Dennis Herold, Steve Stumpf, Duane Saehr, Paul Tembreull, Dennis Tembreull and Danny Herold.
