Michael Patrick Montroy, 66 year old resident of rural Pierz, suddenly and unexpectedly, passed away on February 26th, 2026, at the home he shared with his love, Bonnie. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on March 11th at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Chaplain Gregg Valentine officiating.
Michael was born June 22nd, 1959 in Twenty Nine Palms, California, to William and Shirley Montroy. Growing up, Mike attended numerous schools, while his father was in the military, although the place he called home was Alabama, earning him the nickname "Bama". Mike married Karen, together they had a son, Jason, and later divorced. Mike drove Semi for a living, in many different capacities, eventually owning his own "rig" which he took great pride in. Michael had a deep love for Music, Fishing, Duck Hunting, Deer Hunting, and Animals of all kinds (as a child he wanted to be a veterinarian). Michael was a member of several band, such as, "The Buzzards" and "Red Fever", playing all around the Twin Cities area, he played bass and vocals. Fishing was another of Michael's passions, whether in a boat or on the ice Mike was up for it. Then there were the animals, from his beloved dogs Charlie and Meg , his "old Girls", to his current "girls" Maisy and Lucy and his cat Teddy. Then there was "Old # Seven" the donkey, who Michael liked to call "his 800 pound dog". Then there was the occasional wild animal that needed saving, like the woodchuck with a can stuck on his head, that Mike had to rescue and then get a photo with. He truly loved animals.
In 2003 Mike was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. With a lot of support from friends and some family, he underwent intense treatments, and beat the cancer!
Michael met Bonnie at the drugstore in Onamia, where she worked, through a mutual friend they started dating in June of 2013 and have been together ever since and she will miss him dearly.
In late 2025 Michael experienced a heart attack and several strokes. After many hospital stays, tests and scans, doctors made the diagnosis, the cancer was back, this time stage 4 and although the diagnosis and prognosis were devastating, to he and Bonnie, Michael was determined to fight once again with Bonnie by his side to help him through it. Unfortunately, Michaels body was weakened by the cancer as well as his most recent medical events. Michael's wishes were that, even though tears will be shed, he wanted everyone to find happiness in memories and knowing he is in a better place.
Michael lived a life full of adventure and laughter, he will forever be remembered for his laugh, quirky sense of humor, his love of music and animals, playing guitar, and his many life stories.
Michael is survived and dearly missed by his "Queen" and love, Bonnie Dahl; Father, William Montroy; Siblings, Kathy (Scott) Byrkit, Diane, David; son Jason; Granddaughters and Grandson; his "Girls" Maisy and Lucy, cat Teddy, his faithful donkey, Seven (Bubba); Special Aunt Pat; Nieces & Nephews; Bonnie's children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; Friends and extended Family.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Shirley; Nephew, Nicolas Patrick Glaza; Niece, Kristi Lynn Olson; Special Aunt, Dodi; his dogs, Meg and Charlie, Tipper his "skunk dog"; and his cats; Percy and Buggsy.
*Honorary Pallbearers: Brian Labeau, Todd Seemann, Steve Orttel, Myron Thorne, Marv Coughlin.
