Philip Kowalzek

Philip Kowalzek, age 86 of Lastrup, MN passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at the Pierz Villa in Pierz, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup with Father Johnas officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and Saturday from 8:00-10:00 A.M. at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Pierz. Parish Prayers will be said at 6:00 P.M. Friday evening at the Funeral Chapel. Philip Kolwazek was born January 25, 1921 in Platte Township, Morrison County, MN to the late Math & Mary (Trettel) Kowalzek. He grew up in Platte Township where he attended Platte School through the eighth grade. Following his schooling, Philip worked with his parents on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Gladys L. Valentine on October 26, 1944 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding. Together the couple made their home and farmed in Pulaski Township, Morrison County, MN. Philip also worked for many years at Crestliner Boats in Little Falls, MN as a welder. He then returned to farming for several years. Philip became a resident of the Pierz Villa in January of 2006 residing there until his death. Philip enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the birds, gardening, baseball, playing cards with his neighbors and raising geese and turkeys. He was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN and a present member of St. John's Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. Philip is survived by his wife, Gladys of Harding/Pierz, MN; daughters & sons; Marilyn Kutzler of Burnsville, MN, Elaine Farman & husband, Ted, of Monticello, MN, Dan Kowalzek & wife, Deb, of Livingston, MT, Russel Kowalzek of Sauk Rapids, MN, Gregory Kowalzek of Hastings, MN and Bryce Kowalzek & wife, Amy, of Harding, MN; daughter-in-law, Rose Kowalzek of Harding, MN; brother, Leo Kowalzek of Harding, MN; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Adrian Kowalzek in 2004; brothers, Felix & Steve Kowalzek and a sister, Rose Ebertowski. Casketbearers are Harlan Kowalzek, Yvette Martin, Travis Kowalzek, Keith Kutzler, Buck Kowalzek & Phil Kowalzek.
