A funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Emblom Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. A visitation will be held from 11 AM until the hour of the service. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Little Elk Township.
Richard Carl Brastad was born on February 17, 1953 in Little Falls to the late Donald and Florence (Uhde) Brastad. After attending high school in Champlin, Richard started his career as a cabinet builder for a few years. From there, he dedicated 32 years to working at Federal Cartridge, where his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor made him a cherished colleague. Richard was known for his creative mind, aspirational soul, and skillful hands. After his retirement, he moved from Coon Rapids to Baxter. He enjoyed creating, improving, and building things. Over the years he enjoyed wood working, making things out of stained glass, collecting agates and other rocks and polishing them in rock tumblers...sometimes having 2 or 3 tumblers going at the same time, and he would make jewelry with some of the polished rocks. He also made several wind chimes. Richard always had a project going. Some of his other hobbies were metal detecting and visiting car shows. He really liked classic cars and was able to look at a car and be able to tell the make, model and year within a couple of seconds. When relaxing, he was usually watching the History channel. Richard loved spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting at his cabin with his son and brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Chad Brastad of Coon Rapids;
daughter, Amber Brastad of Saint Francis; brothers, Douglas Brastad of Little Falls and Todd Brastad of Brainerd; uncle, Chester Uhde and uncle, James Uhde and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Florence; brothers, Kevin Brastad and Don Brastad; uncles, Robert Brastad and Kenneth Brastad; and Aunt, Diddie Hines of Little Falls and Aunt Viola Kick.
