Sexton O. Swenson

Sexton Olaf Swenson, age 82, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at home surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Fr. Mark Innocenti officiating. Visitation will be Friday, from 4:00 a" 8:00 p.m. at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service West Chapel in Little Falls with parish prayers at 5:00. Visitation will also be from 8:00 a" 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Darling Cemetery, Morrison County, Little Falls, MN. Military Rites will be conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and Little Falls VFW Post #1112. Sexton was born in Jamptland, Sweden on March 24, 1924, to the late Amalia (Gudmundson) and Olaf Swenson. His family moved to the United States when he was six and settled in Little Falls. Sexton was united in marriage to Janet R. Winskowski on August 12, 1953, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Little Falls. They made their home in Green Prairie Township on a hobby farm since 1957. Sexton served in the Minnesota Army National Guard for 41 years. During his years of service he received many distinguished awards and medals for his duties while serving our country during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class. Sexton was employed at Camp Ripley as a mess sergeant and a mechanic. He raised beef cattle, chickens and a variety of other animals. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. including a month long trip to Sweden. He spent a lot of his free time at Lake Beauty where he and his family built their vacation home. He is survived by Janet his loving wife of 53 years; sons, Eric and Deni Swenson of Shakopee, MN; Don and Linda Swenson of Ramsey, MN; and Thomas and Lori Swenson of Shakopee, MN; daughters, Sharon and Dan Sanderson of Little Falls, MN and Tammy and Dan Mohs of Rice, MN, 14 grandchildren; Kevin, Ashley, Derek, Nick, Josh, Tiffany, Katie, Mike, Bryon, Corey, TJ, Jessica, Shelby and Leah; brother, Robert Swenson of Little Falls; and mother-in-law Josephine Winskowski of Little Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, James and Robert Swenson; brothers; Gustav and George Swenson; sisters, Birget Swenson, Marie Sabaka, Christine Raasch and Solveig Johnson; and father-in-law, Edwin Winskowski. Casket Bearers are: Kevin, Derek and Bryon Sanderson; Nick and Mike Swenson; Ashley, Josh and Shelby Swenson; Tiffany Kostroski, TJ and Jessica Swenson; Katie and Corey Pekula, and Leah Mohs.
