Mary Schlichting

Mary Schlichting, age 97, of Royalton, MN died January 21, 2007 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton, with Fr. Laurn Virnig & Fr. Edwin Kraemer concelebrating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 4:00 a" 8:00 p.m. at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Royalton. Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 8:00 a" 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Holy Trinity Parish Cemetery. Mary was born on April 5, 1909 in Independence, WI to Peter P. and Mary (Smieja) Smieja. She moved to Royalton with the family in her early childhood days. She attended a rural country school near Royalton through her grade school. She was united in marriage to Alfred Schlichting on June 15, 1931 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton. They farmed in Bellevue Township and retired in 1982. Mary enjoyed playing cards, gardening, sewing and spending her time with her family. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Christian Women and the Crosier Apostolate. Mary is survived by her sons, Raymond Schlichting & Roger (Marian) Schlichting both of Rice, MN; daughter, Rita (Jerome) Fasen of Sartell; Marlys Wells of Washburn, WI; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Henrietta Smieja of Nehalem, OR. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred (June 7, 1995); daughter, Irene Burggraff; daughter-in-law, Marlys Schlichting; her parents, Peter & Mary; brothers, Isadore, Clifford, Alois & Infant brother, Clarence Smieja; sisters, Martha Kasella & Kathryn Zehnle.
